What We Provide

The process of professionally editing written work is a detailed art that is most often best performed by skilled individuals with a trained eye for identifying and correcting errors in written work.  Editing is multifaceted field that consists of several distinct and critical stages to help you achieve optimum success from your published work.  Write Edit Express provides professional editing services in the following areas: developmental editing, line editing, copy editing, and proofreading.  A brief synopsis of each of these areas is detailed here in their successive stages to help you decide on the right area of service for your project needs.  If you have a manuscript and have not had any professional editing done to it, we strongly suggest that you consider beginning with stage one and proceed through each level for the best results.

Stage One

Developmental Editing focuses on big picture elements of your story and is a phase of the editing process where your editor gives a thorough evaluation of your work to help determine what it needs in order to be ready for publishing. This manuscript critique addresses various story element issues such as plot holes, poor character development, pacing, action sequences, confusing dialogue, sentence phrasing, and any other issues that arise in relation to story elements.  Developmental editing provides you with honest feedback on your structure and style and offer critique and support as you improve the work.  Editors will provide you with a detailed editorial report that acknowledges what works well with the written work, as well as suggestions on everything the editor thinks you need to change.

Stage Two

Line Editing is an indispensable part of the editing process that is primarily concerned with style.  This line-by-line analysis helps the writer to find the most effective language and sharpen sentence structure, so the story being told, or the information conveyed, is vividly clear and compelling.  We are attentive to the writer’s individual style as we closely analyze how word choice and syntax contribute to the overall tone or emotion of the writing.  Line editing also ensures that the pacing and logical flow of the work is precise.

Stage Three

Copy Editing is a very detailed and critical stage of editing where a copy of the work is reviewed and edited for improved readability.   This process is mainly tasked with mechanics, checking the work for grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and continuity.  Copy editing also checks sentence structure, diction, and the natural flow of the text from sentence to sentence.   Highlighting inconsistencies and fact-checking are extremely vital functions of copy editing when dealing with works of nonfiction; this involves screening the work for accuracy and vetting of factual information.  This process improves your written work by attentively focusing on the writing technicalities of the piece rather than its overall content and tone.

Stage Four

Proofreading is the final phase in the editing process to ensure the final manuscript is error free.  Our proofreading is done after your written work has gone through the other vital stages of editing; it offers a final opportunity to revise the work prior to publication.  We take an intimate look at the work to correct any overlooked errors.  Our inspection includes typesetting, line or page breaks, captions, page layouts, page numbering accuracy, table of contents, index, and text on the back cover.
